Reading Strategies From Reading a-z.com

  • Wait 5-10 seconds to see what attempts are made
  • Ask: "What would make sense there?
  • Use the picture to help figure out the word
  • Go back and read the sentence again
  • Cover the ending (-ed, -ing) with your finger and try the word
  • Help with blending (sounding it out)
  • Tell the word and keep on reading.
Other Helpful Reading Strategies
  • Look at the picture.
  • Point to the words.
  • Get your mouth ready to make the first sound.
  • Find a smaller word inside the bigger word.
  • Skip tricky words and read on to the end of the sentence. Then go back and try again.
  • Think about the meaning of the story while reading.
  • Ask your self, "Does it sound right? Does it make sense?"
